Tom Weatherwax

Tom grew up on his family farm in Iowa and moved to Logansport in 1968.  He has been involved in finance and sales with various employers, Wilson Foods, Erny's Fertilizer and The Andersons.  In 1984 while still employed with Erny's, he was elected State Representative and then in 1988 was elected to the Senate.  While in the House and Senate, he received many awards, including Indiana Chamber of Commerce Government Leader of the Year, the National Republican Legislator of the Year; Indiana Small Business Champion; and Outstanding Freshman Legislator, just to name a few.  He also has received two Sagamore of the Wabash awards, which  is the highest reward given in Indiana.

Being involved in the community has always been important to Tom: he served as the Iron Horse Festival Chairman, United Way Campaign Chairman; was on the Board of Directors of the following:  Logansport Economic Development Foundation Logansport Area Development Corporation.  He received the John Tipton Award and the Frank M. McHale award.  In 2012, he received the honor of receiving the 75th Anniversary Award from the United Way of Cass County.

Also, Tom h as been very involved in Calvary Presbyterian Church where he was Elder for two Sessions, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Fundraising Chairman.

Since his retirement in 2008, Tom is still involved in the community which he loves.  Since retirement he has been involved in the Church as Elder, he is active in Rotary, Grissom Community Council, President; Grissom Air Museum Board; President of Hoosier Heartland Corridor and is on the Board of Directors of Sangralea Valley Boys Home.  In 2014, he was appointed by Governor Pence as a Commissioner to the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.

Tom and Kay have been married for 42 beautiful years.  Every year, Tom and Kay take all of their children and grandchildren to Myrtle Beach.  Once in a while Uncle Pat goes with them.  The whole family loves it.  When they are all together, one has to scream louder than the other in order to be heard over the rest!  Just think:  Grandpa Tom, Grandma kay, six children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren (and a couple of spouses to them) and now three great grandchildren.  Can you imagine the noise level!  It is a wonderful time, and all of us look forward to it every year.  Despite the noise, Tom believes the best time is dinner time when we are all together in one condo when we thank the Lord for all of our blessings.

Footnote:  No one had more compansion to serve others and our community than Kathy Dingo, whom we are honoring this year.  Her vision is why we are here tonight.
