SCARECROW ROW WINNER ANNOUNCED

Monday, October 29th, 2012

Logan’s Landing is pleased to announce the winner of the 2012 Scarecrow Row competition. Event Chairman Rob McMinn stated, “We were impressed by the imagination and creativity shown by all twenty competitors, but only one scarecrow could be chosen as the winner. That winner is ‘Texting Twyla,’ created by the Jim Kitchell Agency.”

For creating the winning scarecrow, the Jim Kitchell Agency will receive a free advertising package valued at over $600, donated by the Cass County Communication Network, Mid-America Radio, and the Pharos-Tribune.  The  carecrows along Broadway and Market Street were enjoyed by passers-by, as well as hundreds of trick-or-treaters who participated in Downtown Spooktacular and the Elks Halloween parade.  Logan’s Landing Executive Director Becki Harris stated, “We believe that the scarecrows added a fun seasonal touch to the  downtown district, and were enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.”

Logan’s Landing is a non-profit organization dedicated to making Cass County’s downtown between-the-rivers district a viable place to operate a business, a rewarding place to live, and a fun place to visit.  For more information, call the Logan’s Landing office at 574-722-9345.

POCKET PARK & PUBLIC ART TO RECEIVE STATEWIDE RECOGNITION

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Logan’s Landing is pleased to announce that their nomination of the Market Street  Pocket Park and Public Art Project has been selected as the recipient of the 2012 Indiana Main Street Design of Downtown Public Improvements Award.  The award will be presented to Logan’s Landing representatives at the Indiana Main Street State Conference in Kokomo on October 11th.

Becki Harris, executive director of Logan’s Landing, stated, “We are very proud and excited that our nominee has been selected as a winner.  The Market Street pocket park was envisioned as a way to soften the appearance of a large downtown parking lot, while adding green space. We also felt that the pocket park would be the ideal setting for a piece of public art.  A large crowd gathered to watch as “The Dancers” statue was unveiled last spring, adding the crowning touch to the
project.”

The project was funded by proceeds from an arts-themed fundraiser, “Dancing With Our Stars,” and represents a major step in the development of a Downtown Arts & Design District.  An additional pocket park is currently being installed on Broadway.

Harris encourages Logansport and Cass County residents to attend the awards ceremony and show community support. The awards ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11th in City Council Chambers at Kokomo City Hall.  There is no charge to attend the awards ceremony; those wishing to stay for the luncheon afterwards will need to register by calling the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance at 765-457-5301.  The cost of the luncheon is $25.

Logan’s Landing is a nationally accredited Main Street Community and can be reached at 574-722-9345 or at lldirector@loganslanding.com.
